We need your leadership!
In recognition of Blindness Awareness Month, we are asking a few of our key partners to rally their friends, family, and networks to support our work. By becoming a fundraiser for VRC's 5K Your Way, you will help people who are blind and visually impaired in Cumberland County, NC, and you'll help your friends feel good about doing good.
Starting a fundraiser is easy to do, and it's fun. We'll even give you all the tools you'll need to make a difference. We ask our fundraisers to set a $300 goal by recruiting donors and walkers (that equals registration tickets for 10 adult walkers).
With your help we can ensure greater independence and improved quality of life for people with blindness.
Join our 5K!
Run, walk, skip, bike, or dance YOUR WAY with us starting Sunday, October 11 through Saturday, October 17. We are asking everyone to walk at least 10 steps blindfolded (with assistance for safety) to understand the VRC mission.
What is a virtual 5K (3.1 miles)?
This will be a 5K that your team will complete on their own or with their family. Everyone chooses the time and place best for them (following local social distancing guidelines of course).
What is a White Cane Day?
Thursday, October 15 is White Cane Day. The white cane is a symbol of independence for people with visual impairments. You are welcomed to do your walk around the VRC trail and Zoom with any 5k walkers doing the event simultaneously.
When will the virtual 5K take place?
We recognize that everyone has different schedules, so the event will begin on Sunday, October 11 and can be completed through Saturday, October 17. We will celebrate everyone’s achievements by posting pictures, quotes, and stories sent in by you! Please share your 5K Your Way journey by emailing email@example.com or posting on social media and tagging Vision Resource Center.
What will I receive for participating?
Ticket price includes a t-shirt, blindfold, and wristband that will be mailed to participants. Register by October 8th to guarantee delivery of items before the end of the event week.
